OSCARS

Even though I have lived in this wonderful county for eighteen years, sometimes I feel very much like an outsider. Allow me to explain. For a while I have been struggling to define the fundamentals of modern American "culture", till very simple explanation finally hit me. Roman plebeians demanded bread and entertainment (sorry, do not remember the exact Latin quote, but the gist's are the same), or they would leave the city. In this blessed country the have plenty of bread for everybody, but we still crave entertainment. That is one of the main reasons a bunch of uneducated morons, narcissists, traitors, and plain disgusting people earn money most of us can not even dream of, then have the colossal nerve to badmouth this country and its people and advise the President and the Congress on the best course to run it.

For any "normal" American reading headlines for the past couple of weeks, the culmination finally came yesterday. Yes, I am talking about "the biggest fashion show of the year", the much anticipated Oscars. We are in the state of war, yet the media dedicates as much, if not more , space to the discussions of who wore what or who will wear what, hairstyles, make up, blah, blah, blah, then to the coverage of the above mentioned war. Yours truly, being on the nerdy side, does not usually watch Oscars. I have enough of that stupidity staring at me every time I go online. So, yesterday was no exception: I skipped watching the narcissists getting all spiffed up and singing praises to one another. Two comments of the newscaster before the weather report and the announcement of one of the wins summed it up pretty nicely for me.

The first comment was to the extent that there was a very ethnically diverse crowd of actresses, followed by something to the tune "multicultural representation". My verbose non-friends in the left media: ethnically diverse does not equal multicultural (just check the dictionary). The second comment, immediately following the first was to the extent that there was the biggest representation of the "women of color" ever, followed by the clip of Queen Latifa enthusing: "It's about time!" By the way, judging by their attire, the biggest contribution by the "actresses of color" to ther adoring fans is the generous display of mammary glands.

The win I am referring to is "An inconvenient truth". I do not think that requires any further comment. Just sit back and digest it: Al Gore!!! making a documentary on a "very hot topic" of global warming, a topic who's "scientific" value was disproven long time ago, and only a very serious ignoramus who slept through earth science in the elementary school takes it to heart.

So, here we have it in a nutshell. Oscars are supposed to be given as a sign of recognition of the distinguished contribution to the art of movies ( and yes, despite what my friend M. thinks, I do perceive movies as a serious art and recognize their uniqueness). Instead, we have a media circus, moronic fashion show and the non-subtle and persistent shoving down our throats of the political agenda of the crazy far left. The saddest part of all this is that although Hollywood is overpopulated with total nobodies who's only claim to fame is their glamor (read: anorexia + boob job+ expensive make up), some of these people have genuine talent.

Any talent is a gift from the Creator. They could use it to create the genuine, breathtaking works of art that were the movies of the past eras, something that will live on for decades and delight the people for generations to come. Instead, they promote the Anti-American agenda of the liberals, badmouth the country that gave them the right and freedom to the "pursuit of happiness", and in the process belittle the real accomplishments of "the ethnically diverse" and put women on the level of glorified call girls. What a waste! I think plebeians should start looking into different gladiator fights.
